In 1994, the Brandywine School District re-opened Springer Middle School. Back then, the Springer Band consisted of one Concert Band and a Jazz Ensemble. Today, the Springer Band program has grown to include not only a Concert Band, but a Symphonic Band, a Beginning Band class, String Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble. The program has expanded from 70 band students in 1994, to over 140 band students today. The Springer Band has performed in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., and of course Delaware. The band has been the recipiant of the prestigious Judge's Award for band in 1994 and 2000. The Symphonic Band has performed at the National Adjudicator's Invitational in 1996, 1997, and 1999. In 1997, the Symphonic Band was one of 8 Middle School Bands in the United States to receive a superior rating at the N.A.I. Festival. In 2001, the Symphonic Band had the honor of performing in concert with Dr. Brian Bowman. In 2002, Springer has also graciously accepted the Judge's Choice Award. The Band Program at Springer consistantly receives excellent and superior ratings at various regional and national music festivals.
